American Paintings

Since the 1940s GRAHAM has had a substantial presence in the field of American painting. Savvy about changing tastes, the Graham family has been committed to bringing before the public significant work by American painters whose reputations warrant renewed examination. Gallery shows revived interest in the work of a series of important artists in returning these reputations too long in eclipse to their rightful prominence. Gallery strengths have been focused on late-nineteenth and early-twentieth-century American art, American modernism, and realist artists in the tradition of The Eight. Those they have shown reveal the considerable overlap between these groups, as well as an expanded definition of modernism.
