Biography
Edvard Eriksen was born in Copenhagen on March 10, 1876, where he studied at the School of Fine Arts. While at the School of Fine Arts, Eriksen won a gold medal for his group Meditation. After finishing his studies in Copenhagen, Eriksen was awarded a travelling scholarship and spent most of his time in Italy. His most prominent and renowned piece is his Little Mermaid, which can be found at the entrance to Copenhagen Harbor. Throughout Eriksen’s career, moreover, this work was the subject of countless bronze reductions and copies. Several of Eriksen’s other notable works include Mother and Child and Adam and Eve after their expulsion from Paradise.
